Professional Profile

Photographer, lighting designer, director, producer, researcher and art educator with extensive experience in television, music, theatre, events and international photography projects. He has worked for virtually all Dutch broadcasting organisations and on major national and international television productions. He specialises in the creative interplay between image, light, colour, music and space.

Professional Experience

Noorderlicht.tv – Founder and Owner

September 2001–2004

Self-employed in the fields of lighting design, photography and visual design.

  • Lighting design for television programmes, concert recordings and events.
  • Photography projects in South America and Europe.
  • Production, direction and research for classical music programmes, including Columns Classics.
  • Exhibition in Laren featuring digital photographic collages of Antarctica and Chile.
  • Design and development of various websites.
  • Contributions to DVD productions by artists including Kayak and Normaal.

LD Design – Co-owner

Co-owner of a design and consultancy agency specialising in:

  • Lighting design for television, theatre and events.
  • Production and technical supervision of television programmes.
  • Visual consultancy and concept development.

Independent Photographer, Director and Producer

1996

  • Photography projects in Antarctica, South America and Europe.
  • Direction, research and production of 45 classical music programmes in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
  • The programmes were broadcast by NCRV and EO.

Independent Lighting Designer, Producer and Researcher

1990–1995

  • Lighting design and production for television programmes, concerts and events.
  • Research and editorial preparation for television productions.
  • Instructor in lighting and directing in Jakarta, in cooperation with the Dutch Ministry for Development Cooperation and the RVU.
  • Occasional instructor at the Media Academy and its predecessor, Santbergen, until 2003.
  • Exhibition of paintings in Amsterdam.

NOS, NOB and Dutch Educational Television

1982–1989

  • Employed as a lighting designer by NOS and subsequently NOB.
  • Lighting design for programmes produced by virtually all Dutch broadcasting organisations.
  • Direction, research and production of the weekly children’s programme Nieuws uit de Natuur for Dutch Educational Television.
